Guided Fishing Tours
The Youghiogheny River has become a remarkable cold water fishery in recent years due to two events that have transpired since 1950.
That year the Corps of Engineers completed the largest earthen dam ever built in the states on the Youghiogheny River at the confluence
of the Yough with the Casselman River and the Laurel Hill Creek. The dam discharges water from the bottom of the reservoir, which keeps
the water temperature cool, and it allows for moderate flows during the hot summer months. This phenomenon also allows for the dilution
of strip mine discharges from the Casselman River. In the mid 1990's there was a blowout of an old seal on a coal seam on the Casselman
and the resulting cleanup has enhanced the river as a fishery to its best conditions in over a hundred years. These events have raised
the Youghiogheny to a premier big water trout-fishing stream on the order of the famous western streams the Madison and Snake. Unlike
fishing the small streams with overhanging foliage, the Yough can be fished from built rowing rigs that can accommodate two
guests per raft. With 23 miles of river to choose from we can create a truly remarkable day for you. Our guides enjoy sharing their
knowledge of this resource to help you bring in numerous Brook, Brown and Rainbow Trout that have come to thrive in these waters.
Whether you're a fly fisherman or enjoy working different spinners you'll take home some great memories of some of the prettiest scenery
east of Jackson Hole.
